Project activities

The overall objective of this Phase 1 project is to produce an extensive, detailed and robust business plan to set-up the NOMATEN CoE. To achieve this, a 12-month work plan has been carefully designed based on several strongly interrelated work packages (WPs):

WP1. Business Plan Production
Lead beneficiary: NCBJ

Over the 12 month duration of the project, partners will produce an extensive, detailed and robust business plan for the setting-up of the CoE. NCBJ will take into account the best-practice of the Advanced Partners (CEA and VTT) and other world-leading research centres (e. g. IMEC, TNO etc.).

WP2. Teaming Audit and Recommendations for the long-term science and innovation strategy
Lead beneficiary: CEA

Before developing a comprehensive business plan for the new science and technology centre for multifunctional materials, it will be essential to have a deep understanding of the current research and innovation position of each Teaming partner. In order to obtain this complete picture, each Teaming partner will be audited with respect to its strategy, R& D priorities, resources (human, facilities and infrastructure), funding sources, management, and S& T outputs. By auditing each partner, it will enable gaps and synergies across the team to be more precisely identified (e. g. possible joint research programmes, mutually beneficial laboratory equipment, etc.) and thus recommendations formulated on where to channel the funding resources for the new science and technology centre for multifunctional materials.

WP3. Organisational Model and International Marketing Plan
Lead beneficiary: VTT

The development of the organisation model to be adopted by the CoE and an international marketing plan for the CoE will to raise the awareness amongst potential end-users and partners and thereby maximise its impact

WP4. Technology Transfer and Access Policy
Lead beneficiary: VTT

The development of an IPR and technology transfer strategy for the CoE as well as the development of an access policy and cooperation strategy for the CoE. This will help to optimise both the collaboration between the consortium partners and the impact of the CoE in its ability to transfer beneficial research results to society.

WP5. Performance Assessment System and Financing
Lead beneficiary: CEA

The development of a performance assessment system to monitor and evaluate the effective establishment and operation of the CoEand the creation of a detailed financing plan covering the implementation, operation and sustainability of the CoE over a 5–10 year period. The first task will help to ensure the NOMATEN CoE reaches its objectives in terms of impact whilst the second task will help to ensure its financial sustainability.

WP6. Communication and Dissemination
Lead beneficiary: NCBJ

The task leader and consortium partners will establish a communications framework making use of online conferencingand document sharing software to minimise travel needs. The task leader willmonitor partner communications to ensurethat critical information is shared as required and provide a central resource to ensure all partners can rapidly accesskey data. The project website will be designed and developed to have an open and easy interface.

WP7. Project Management
Lead beneficiary: NCBJ

The project will be coordinated by the Project Co-ordinator, scientific management activities will be overseen by a Scientific Steering Committee, administrative management matters will be handled by NCBJ, and the Advisory Board will be chaired by NCBiR. The Board’s role is two-fold: firstly, to give strategic advice to the Project Coordinator, Project Steering Committee and Scientific Steering Committee, on specific topics addressed by the project (e. g. needs of industry, allocation of ESIF/national funds, etc.) and, secondly, to review and quality-control project deliverables (NCBiR will be the quality-controller).

WP8. Ethics requirements
Lead beneficiary: NCBJ

The objective is to ensure compliance with the ’ethics requirements’ set out in this work package.
