Experimental Materials Science for Nuclear Applications – AMT 2026 Symposium (NOMATEN)

June 14–17, 2026 | Łódź, Poland

NOMATEN is organizing the “Experimental Materials Science for Nuclear Applications” symposium as part of the Advanced Materials and Technologies (AMT) 2026 conference.

The event will take place on June 14–17, 2026 in Łódź, Poland and will bring together researchers focused on experimental investigations of materials for nuclear applications.

The symposium highlights recent experimental advances in the design and characterisation of radiation-resistant materials, with particular emphasis on their long-term stability under extreme service conditions. It provides a platform for discussion of materials used in current and next-generation nuclear technologies.

The session covers the full experimental pathway, including materials synthesis, alloy and coating design, and advanced manufacturing, as well as microstructural, thermal, mechanical, and irradiation-response characterisation. Special attention is given to radiation-induced defect evolution, phase stability, segregation phenomena, and degradation mechanisms under reactor-relevant conditions. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

Key topics include:

  • Development of radiation-resistant materials for nuclear applications
  • Synthesis, processing, and advanced manufacturing of nuclear materials
  • High-entropy alloys, ferritic/martensitic steels, nickel-based alloys, and protective coatings
  • Radiation-induced defects, segregation, hardening, and phase evolution
  • Microstructural, mechanical, thermal, and irradiation-response characterization
  • Materials performance under high-temperature, corrosive, and accident-tolerant conditions
  • Experimental approaches to the development and evaluation of materials for advanced nuclear systems

Organizers:

  • Assoc. Prof. Łukasz Kurpaska (NCBJ, NOMATEN CoE)
  • Dr inż. Magdalena Gawęda (NCBJ, NOMATEN CoE)

Invited speaker:

  • Assoc. Prof. Pavel Souček (Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic)
