Modeling Metallurgical Phase Transformations for Additive Manufacturing Processes in Abaqus

Abstract:

The seminar will cover the special-purpose material modeling techniques implemented in Abaqus for thermo-mechanical simulations of additive manufacturing processes. It will introduce the metallurgical phase transformations concept and the built-in Abaqus framework applicable to arbitrary metal alloys, making it possible to account for their physical state changes from raw material (such as metal powder) via melting and solidification followed by solid-state phase transformations due to heating or cooling. The webinar will also mention grain morphology and grain size assessment models, as well as the dedicated keyword interface.

Bio:

Dr inż. Jakub Michalski is an expert in computer simulations at TECHNIA with years of scientific and implementation experience. His main area of interest is numerical analysis (FEA). He utilizes these simulations both during professional work (for Dassault Systemes SIMULIA partner) and as a hobby. He mainly focuses on mechanics of materials. In 2023, he received PhD in mechanics of metamaterials at Poznań University of Technology.
