BECHTEL & CoE NOMATEN Workshop Meeting on Nuclear Materials Testing and Certification

Date

On 3.02.2025, NCBJ's NOMATEN Centre of Excellence hosted experts from Bechtel Poland, a leader in engineering and construction. The study visit discussed opportunities for collaboration in research, testing, certification and qualification of materials used in PWR technology.

Bechtel in consortium with Westinghouse is responsible for the design and construction of the first nuclear power plant in Pomerania based on 3 Gen. III/III+ type AP1000 nuclear reactors. The investor is Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe.

During the meeting, experts from Bechtel Poland were introduced to the research capabilities in CoE NOMATEN's  laboratories, as well as to the quality management system and scope of the Materials Research Lab (LBM) accreditation. Participants led a discussion on materials testing in the context of materials qualification, with particular emphasis on the testing and certification procedures for materials performed at LBM in accordance with international quality standards, particularly in accordance with US ASTM standards. A visit to the MARIA reactor and MARIA Neutron Laboratory was also part of the study visit.

Increasing R&D capacity in nuclear technology is the foundation for future innovation in the nuclear power industry. We look forward to further developing our cooperation with Bechtel.
