NOMATEN Centre of Excellence at the meeting at The National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) summed up its 5-year activity
Three Polish Centers of Excellence that received funding from Horizon 2020: Sano, ENSEMBLE3 and NOMATEN - summed up their 5-year activities at a conference dedicated to the "Teaming for Excellence" competition. Representatives of the following projects recently received a grant from Horizon Europe: TRIO-VI, AstroCENT Plus and P4Health, and they also discussed their plans. The meeting was hosted by the National Center for Research and Development.
Discussions on the contribution of the Centers of Excellence to the development of Polish science, the economy and society were held in a wide circle. In addition to the participants of the "Teaming" Projects, the meeting, held on July 31 in Warsaw, was attended by representatives of the Foundation for Polish Science, the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Łukasiewicz Research Network, among others. Also present were delegates from the Ministries of Industry, Digitalization, Development and Technology and representatives from the Research and Innovation Center of the Supreme Medical Chamber.
One of the three projects under the Teaming for Excellence program is the NOMATEN Center of Excellence, which was created through partnerships with two leading research organizations: CEA of France and VTT of Finland. The centre's research topics focus on the design, manufacture, research and potential applications of new materials that can withstand extreme environments such as radiation, high temperatures and various types of corrosion. In parallel, NOMATEN researches new types of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosing and treating civilization diseases, especially cancer. This work involves obtaining new medical radioisotopes, labelling biomolecules with them, and preclinical evaluation of their potential use in nuclear medicine.
- NOMATEN is a scientific and production centre. The focus is on energy and health. The classical energy industry generally struggles with two problems: temperature and corrosion. In contrast, radiopharmaceuticals have to face the problem of corrosion and radiation in the area of medical materials. To develop materials for the nuclear power industry, one must deal with all three aspects. Hence the concept of the NOMATEN Centre of Excellence, which measures the problem of temperature, corrosion and radiation simultaneously - Lukasz Kurpaska, Director of the NOMATEN CoE
