Professor Mikko Alava was appointed director of the NOMATEN CoE

The process of creating the NOMATEN Center of Excellence is entering a decisive phase: Professor Mikko Alava has assumed the position of director and will soon start completing research teams. CoE NOMATEN is to explore new functional materials. It was created thanks to a grant in the Teaming for excellence competition and thanks to the support of the Foundation for Polish Science.

On 24 – 26 September 2019 the Nomaten Teaming Phase 2 project representatives attended the European Research and Innovation Days, the first annual policy event of the European Commission bringing together stakeholders to debate and shape the future research and innovation landscape.


On 20-24 May 2019, professor Jacek Jagielski, coordinator of the NOMATEN Teaming project, visited the Japanese Atomic Energy Agency.

On May 13-17, 2019, the NOMATEN CoE group was visited by scientists from the Centre for High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy Laboratory from Nelson Mandela University, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

On April, 23rd Prime Ministers Mateusz Morawiecki and Jarosław Gowin visited Świerk. The visit was concluded by a joint press conference with NCBJ Director General Krzysztof Kurek. The topic of the conference was awarding Polish applicants with 3 out of 13 EU grants in the Teaming for Excellence competition. The grants were expected to aid in creation of Excellence Centres and our NOMATEN project was one of the winners


The NOMATEN Center of Excellence project was given as an example (the only) of initiatives in the new Union that deserved funding under the Horizon 2020 program to boost research and innovation performance and inspiring the scientific community to develop new products and processes in tandem with leading scientific institutes from all over Europe (read more)


Centre of Excellence NOMATEN created in NCBJ in Świerk, Poland will receive 15 million euro of support from the European Union. The project became the beneficiary of the Teaming EU competition. The NOMATEN CoE was created in 2018 as a result of an agreement between NCBJ and the Foundation for Polish Science. The project was prepared at NCBJ with the participation of the CEA (France) and VTT (Finland)...

The National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Poland offers job positions in the framework of the NOMATEN Centre of Excellence formed through a partnership between NCBJ, CEA (France) and VTT (Finland). NOMATEN will focus on the studies and development of novel materials, specifically those designed to work under harsh conditions – radiation, high temperatures and corrosive environments.

The purpose of the undertaking is to support entities of the higher education and science system that have received funding from the European Union budget in the competition H2020-WIDESPREAD-2018-2020/WIDESPREAD-01-2018-2019: Teaming Phase 2. in the preparation, implementation and updating of activities, maintenance of material resources necessary for carrying out activities, acquisition and modernization of scientific and research apparatus, maintenance and development of personnel potential necessary for the implementation of activities, and dissemination of the results of scientific activities.
