NOMATEN numerical modeling and experimental groups published new scientific paper in collaboration with the experimental group led by Dr. Yanwen Zhang of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in Materials & Design entitled: “Effects of Fe atoms on hardening of a nickel matrix: Nanoindentation experiments and atom-scale numerical modeling”.
The NOMATEN Centre of Excellence is organizing a conference on June 1-3, 2022, with the focus on the, widely defined, interplay of materials science with machine learning, that will feature presentations and tutorials from renowned experts in applied mathematics, drug design, material science, and renewable energy.
NOMATEN CoE Director prof. Mikko Alava is one of the founders of the ongoing CECAM conference. In addition, a number of NOMATEN and NCBJ scientists participate in this event, whereas Stefanos Papanikolaou and Silvia Bonfanti will give talks during the afternoon session on Wednesday March 30.
On March 22 and 23 NOMATEN team performer a study visit at VTT Technical Institute of Finland. The event had been hosted at VTT’s Centre for Nuclear Safety (CNS) in Espoo, suburbs of Helsinki.

Konstantina Mergia (National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”, Athens, Greece) will give a talk about fusion energy materials.
Materials Informatics – Structure and Function (MASIF) research group at NOMATEN investigates the connection between the material’s structure and properties. The data produced during the experiment and simulations are being processed with the materials informatics tools. The up to date scientific papers review has been recently published by the MASIF group: Materials Informatics for Mechanical Deformation: A Review of Applications and Challenges (Materials 2021, 14(19), 5764). This research group is managed by Stefanos Panikolaou PhD
