Title: Effect of high-temperature irradiation on the chemical environment of Ni, Co, Fe, and Cr in oxide dispersion strengthened-concentrated solid solution
Abstract: The extreme service conditions in advanced nuclear reactors make the structural material discovery for such applications challenging. The current research proposes to address this issue via novel oxide dispersion strengthened-concentrated solid solution alloys (ODS-CSAs) such as ODS-NiCoFe, ODS-NiCoFeCr, and ODS–NiCoCr. Our previous work showed irradiation-induced chemical segregation at grain boundaries for ODS-NiCoFeCr; while ODS-NiCoFe and ODS–NiCoCr are relatively damage-resistant. The proposed experiments at beamline I18 will conduct extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to elucidate the possible mechanisms of such effects. The hypotheses include vacancy-assisted Cr migration in ODS-NiCoFeCr and chemical short-range ordering in ODS-NiCoCr.
