Title: Three-dimensional Plasticity Characterization around the Nano-indentation in the Irradiation Regions of NiFe-based Medium Entropy Alloy
Abstract: The rapid evolution of clean energy technologies such as nuclear power intensified the demand for structural materials with extreme specifications such as high temperature and high radiation tolerance. Medium-entropy alloys (MEAs) can possess such superior properties compared to conventional materials. However, there is limited literature and a lack of understanding of the irradiation effects in MEAs. For instance, irradiation hardening is one of the key effects that can lead to material failure. Hence, the scope of the current work is to examine a model NiFe-based MEA following high-temperature ion irradiation and nano-indentation to identify the microstructural origins of irradiation hardening. The proposed work aims to understand the interaction of indentation-induced plastic deformation and irradiation-induced defects via three-dimensional electron microscopy. Thus, the work can pave the path for the qualification of structural materials for advanced nuclear reactor concepts.
