Ministry of Science and Higher Education Scholarship for Outstanding Young Researchers – Dr Karol Frydrych

In 2024, dr Karol Frydrych from NOMATEN CoE received a scholarship for outstanding young researchers from Minister of Science and Higher Education of Poland for 36 months with budget 5390 PLN/month. The scholarship was awarded in the field of engineering and technology (discipline – materials engineering). The scholarship was awarded thanks to single-author and first-author publications in prestigious journals (200 and 140 ministry points), postdoctoral stay in France (LEM3, Metz, 2017-2018) and winning of the KMM-VIN fellowship allowing for research stay in Germany (FAU, Erlangen, 2017). The awarded cycle of publications was devoted to mean-field crystal plasticity modelling of materials deforming by slip and twinning and included both breakthrough applications of two-scale model and development of a novel three-scale crystal plasticity model allowing to account for microstructure evolution (texture and grain refinement) of polycrystalline metals and alloys subjected to large and severe plastic deformation. The experimentally-validated modelling results shed light into micro-mechanisms of plastic deformation of important engineering materials such as Fe-Cr, Ti and Mg alloys.
