Dr Kurpaska from NOMATEN received 55 000 PLN for an exchange program between Poland and US and spent 3 months at MIT, Boston. 

Title of the project: Development of new generation high entropy alloys resistant to radiation with improved mechanical properties

Abstract: The proposed research aims to develop and study a new multifunctional, state-of-the-art High Entropy Alloy (HEA). The correlation between elevated mechanical and structural properties and radiation resistance will be explored. The materials will be irradiated at high temperatures with heavy ions to mimic neutron damage build-up. We will also employ complex simulations to understand the interaction of radiation-induced defects with dislocations. 

The studies will be conducted simultaneously by two groups (each group will propose a Ph.D. program implemented later in their home institution) that will exchange the data and provide complementary studies in their laboratories. Our goal is to learn how to manipulate the material's ability to dissipate radiation energy which can control the early stages of defect formation and mass transport and may impact the evolution of defects in later stages resulting in prolonged lifetime operation in harsh environments
