Title of the project: Forming and Manufacturing Technology of Novel High-Efficiency B4C-Reinforced Stainless Steel Shielding Composites via External Energy Field-Assisted Additive Manufacturing
Abstract: This project focuses on the overarching goal of investigating the structure–function performance relationships in B4C/316L composites fabricated via external-field-assisted laser additive manufacturing. It aims to systematically address key scientific challenges, including external field control during fabrication, mechanical performance tuning, and radiation service behavior, with the objective of overcoming the current technical bottleneck in balancing forming quality, mechanical strength, and radiation shielding performance in particle-reinforced metal matrix composites. Firstly, the project proposes a novel mechanism that integrates pulsed electric fields with laser additive manufacturing to regulate particle migration and solidification behavior within the melt pool. This approach is expected to significantly enhance the densification and interfacial stability of the material, enabling uniform distribution of ceramic particles and maximizing their reinforcement effect. In parallel, a multiscale structural design strategy will be developed to optimize both mechanical and shielding properties. By leveraging NSGA-II multi-objective optimization algorithms in combination with finite element simulations, the project will establish a robust structure–performance response model that enables coordinated optimization for lightweight design, high strength, and superior shielding efficiency. The research outcomes of this project will provide both theoretical insights and practical process solutions for the design and fabrication of high-reliability radiation shielding structural materials, with significant scientific value and promising engineering applications.
