CABLE INSULATION WITH ENHANCED RADIATION RESISTANCE – Dr. Anna Kosińska
Dr Anna Kosińska leads the Science4Business - Nauka dla Biznesu project “Radiation resistant cable insulation materials for nuclear power plant application”. The scientific project aims to develop innovative cable insulation materials with enhanced resistance to ionizing radiation and extended service lifetime for use in nuclear power plants. The research will focus on modifying the material composition, optimizing the crosslinking process, and incorporating functional inorganic fillers to improve resistance to radiation-induced degradation while maintaining the required mechanical, electrical, and operational properties of the insulation.
Particular attention will be given to the relationship between filler composition, dispersion, polymer structure, and resistance to radiation - induced degradation. Comprehensive structural, microstructural, spectroscopic, thermal, mechanical, and electrical characterization will be performed to determine the mechanisms underlying the enhanced radiation resistance of the developed materials. The materials will be investigated before and after exposure to ionizing radiation, allowing changes in their structure and functional properties to be correlated with irradiation conditions and material composition.
The project has significant implementation potential, as the developed materials and technologies may provide a basis for further research and development, industrial implementation, and commercialization of radiation - resistant cable insulation for the nuclear energy sector.
